To Chanctonbury Ring in the Winter – Part Two

Part Two of the walk up to Chanctonbury Ring with Julia and her son and myself.

The famous ring of trees were planted by Charles Goring in 1760 on the iron age hill fort on the Southdowns in West Sussex is interesting. As a boy, it is said, he carried buckets of water up the steep hill to water his beloved saplings.

The place is ancient; a place of pagan worship, site of two Roman temples and a couple of bronze age round barrows.
