The Quest for England: The Magic of Footpaths

One of the many things that people from other countries envy about the UK, and in particular for my channel, England, are the wonderful network of footpaths we have criss-crossing the nation.

These ancient tracks have evolved over time from various needs of the traveller and by old fashion law thy have become sacrosanct. To travel the country by footpath would be a dream these days, to avoid the busy highways jammed with noisy, polluting cars.

Who travelled the footpaths? Where did they go? It would be fun to seek out the answer in more details. Today I am on my way to St Mary’s in Sompting to visit a remarkable Saxon church.
