The Quest For England – In Which I search for Thunders Barrow Camp

Today I am hiking over the South Downs in West Sussex to seek Thundersbarrow Hill where in ancient times there was a hillfort and settlement. It is likely that the peoples of Thundersbarrow moved down from the hills to Kingston Buci and Southwick in Saxon times. They would also have used the old trackway that runs north and south to take their swineherd northwards to the weald to the woodlands there in autumn to feed them on mast, acorns and fungi, fattening them up for winter.
