The Old Furnace at Coalbrookdale Ironworks remains as a small area of foundation walls. These were part of the first furnace of 1638. It was in this furnace, in 1709, that the first iron ever to be made with coke was smelted.
I am once again joined by Lee Proudfoot to help me explore and interpret the history of this important part of the world.
