The Battle of Sedgemoor Walk (from the church)

In this video I explore the walk from St Mary’s the Virgin in Westonzoyland to the site of the Battle of Sedgemoor and the memorial stone laid there.

The battle took place in July 1685 between James Scott, the Duke of Monmouth, and the Royal army of James 2nd. I’m interested in the scenery today and investigate the rhynes that crisscross the Somerset Levels. These drainage ditches hampered the rebel army when they made their dead-of the-night attack on the sleeping royalists.
