Ringer Ollie and St Margaret’s in West Hoathly

Today I am exploring the lovely parish church of St Margarets in West Hoathly, a beautiful, tucked out-of-the-way village in East Sussex.

Young bell ringing enthusiast, Ollie, tells me all about the lovely church and more about his fascinating hobby.

Built in the early Norman period, St Margarets has had various changes over the centuries, not least in fitting an electric clock. Ann Tree, a local lady from the village was martyred under the rule of Bloody Mary in East Grinstead and there is a memorial to her in the nave.

A fabulous yew tree grows in the churchyard, and the view to the South Downs is delightful.
