In today’s video I am asking if modern architecture is bland, inappropriate and out of place. I live in a seaside town on the south coast of England. It came to its own during the late Georgian period, and later the Victorian and Edwardian periods, with a smattering of Art Deco from the 20s and early 30s.
Scroll forward to modern times, and stylistically, Worthing is a hotchpotch of different type of architecture. I argue that as a seaside town and coastal resort it has lost its character and sense of place. Worse still, look at the buildings and you could be anywhere in the country, and not necessarily by the sea!
