A Walk to Southerham Farm

I my continuing search for England, Julia and I take a walk up on the downland above Lewes in East Sussex to the Sussex Wild Life Trust nature reserve at Southerham Farm.

We start our walk in Cliffe, just to the East of Lewes and walk up Chapel Lane, past the golf course and up on the nature reserve.

Wikipedia tells us: The thin and infertile soils on this chalk site result in a floristically very rich grassland. Plants which flower in the summer include horseshoe vetch, kidney vetch, mouse-ear hawkweed, field scabious, dropwort and salad burnet.

On our winter walk, we hear many ground nestling birds, but sadly couldn’t get close to any.
