Blandscape – The Look of Modern Countryside in England

As a follow on from my previous video, I am thinking about the agricultural changes that happened after the Second World War in the UK. The thought that we needed to dig up unused marginal land and put it under the plough to grow crops, and more efficiently than before, led farmers to turn to monoculture farming. This led to the loss of hedges, ponds, woodland areas, as well as wild life. The result is that much of the landscape accessible by the public has become bland never ending prairies.

I am on Graffham Down looking at a typical example of ‘blandscape’ facing the those wishing to enjoy the countryside.
