The Purple Heather of the Lord’s Piece

Today I am walking through the Barlavington Estate on a wonderful heathland called Lord’s Piece. It is sited close to Fittleworth and Duncton in West Sussex.

There is not only beautiful purple heather to wander through, but yellow flowering gorse, rowan trees and oak. A magical place for wildlife, such as ground nesting birds.

In the 1950s this land was closed off and marked private. It is open to the public and well worth visiting at any time of year, but particularly when the heather is in such vibrant colour.
